Q: Where is the office located?
A: We are in Blacksburg on South Main St. in Gables Shopping Center, next to Sole Mate Shoes. Please see our directions page for more details.

Q: What hours and days of the week are you open?
A: We are open Monday through Thursday from 8am-5pm.  We are closed for lunch from 1-2pm.

Q: Will you take my insurance?
A: We file insurance as a courtesy for our patients.  We routinely assist our patients in understanding the use of their dental benefits.

Q: I don’t understand how my insurance works, can you help?
A: Yes!  Determining the best way to utilize your insurance can be confusing.  Benefits can vary widely from plan to plan – even from employees of the same company!  We take the time to explain the particulars of your policy to give you a clear idea of your benefits.  This allows you to make informed financial choices.

Q: I’m scared of the dentist. How can Dr. Atherton help?
A: There are many ways our office can help you if you’re anxious.  Dr. Atherton’s chairside demeanor and that of her staff help patients relax.  We have music, TV and DVD’s for you to enjoy while you are being treated.  For patients who are very anxious, we offer Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) as a sedative.

Q: Why Take X-Rays?
A: Dental x-rays are extremely important. They allow the dentist to see conditions in the mouth that cannot be seen by a visual exam. These can include decay between the teeth, bone loss from periodontal disease, cysts (sacks of fluid around the roots of teeth), benign and malignant tumors, and the location of impacted teeth.  We use new digital x-rays, which reduce the amount of radiation by 90% to make them safer than ever.  See our services page for more details.
