About Dr. Atherton

Dr. Atherton has a true passion for dentistry.  She spends many hours each year attending continuing education to learn the latest and most advanced technologies for her patients.  She has achieved advanced certification as an Invisalign provider and has studied at the California Implant Institute.  She is a member of the Virginia Dental Association, The Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Association.

Dr. Atherton was born in Detroit, Michigan.  She received her undergraduate and dental degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.  Upon completion of her dental education in 1990, she served as a dentist in the United States Air Force for three years.

Dr. Atherton practiced in the Detroit metropolitan area for seven years, during which time she was dental director for a large group practice.  She and her family moved to the New River Valley in 2000 where she has practiced in Christiansburg for the last six years. 

Besides dentistry, Dr. Atherton enjoys working out, cooking, and travel.  She has been married for 12 years to husband Hulannie and has two children.
